Garment bonding, using hot melt adhesive and seam sealing tape provides excellent adhesion results in a controlled manufacturing process.
But what are the advantages of adhesive bonding over other forms of joint creation such as sewing seams?
Adhesive bonds are lighter than traditional sewn seams and patches. The lack or stitching offers less additional weight, a more complete bond and significant reduction in weight. In performance clothing where ever little advantage helps, bonded seams can offer a real performance advantage through reduced weight for those seeking the ultimate performance edge.
Using the right adhesive agents, bonding can provide a strong if not stronger bond than sewing machine stitches. While the advantages of durability using bonding machines differs from fabric to fabric, when tested using a tensometer, the results are crystal clear.
Along with durability, adhesive bonding offers real flexibility advantages. The reduced ‘bulk’ of adhesives over stitching provides greater flexibility of movement for the wearer along with better stretch and recovery.
Adhesive bonding provides great waterproofing benefits. In the same way that seam sealing adds a protective waterproofing to stitched seams and ultrasonic seams, adhesive bonding can improve the water resistance of your garment because there are no stitch holes in the fabric that would allow water to seep in. Adhesive bonding offers great advantages to waterproofing external pocket patches and other solutions.
